Job summary

Proception Inc. in Mountain View, CA is seeking a Mechanical Engineering intern to design and prototype precision structures for robotic hands and humanoid systems. You will work closely with actuators, geartrains, fixtures, and assemblies on a fast-moving hardware team.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or related field.
• Strong foundation in engineering first principles, mechanics, and DFx.
• Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks or Fusion 360.
• Hands-on experience building and testing prototypes quickly.
• Strong communication and collaboration in a cross-functional hardware team.
• Experience with machining, rapid prototyping, or precision manufacturing.
• Experience with actuators and geartrains (strain-wave, planetary, cycloidal, or ball-screw).
• Exposure to sensors, motors, drivers, wiring, and communication buses.
• Prior experience taking a mechanical product from concept to production.

Responsibilities

• Design structural and precision components for robotic hands and humanoid systems.
• Create assemblies, drawings, and release-ready documentation for prototypes and manufactured parts.
• Develop and build custom fixtures and jigs for assembly, test, and characterization.
• Test mechanisms and integrated systems; support debugging, tuning, and performance validation.
• Drive design iterations from test feedback, failure analysis, and manufacturing constraints.
• A Proception employee will reach out directly to schedule additional interviews.
• A portfolio is recommended where relevant.
• Interview process: two technical interviews and one CEO interview.
