Job summary

Boston Dynamics, Inc. is seeking a Controls Reliability Engineer to architect failure analysis data pipelines for a large Atlas fleet. You will improve data quality by aggregating telemetry, diagnostics, and operational metadata, while developing automated health-monitoring tools and scalable diagnostic suites.

You will collaborate with hardware and software teams, translate complex data into structured reports, and work onsite at the Waltham facility to directly support robotics operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, ME/EE, CS, Data Science, or related field.
• At least 1 year of professional robotics, hardware reliability (SRE), data engineering, or high-level technical support for electromechanical systems.
• Proven experience building and debugging complex systems using analytics, telemetry logs, and diagnostic tools.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL for system analysis and tool development.
• Experience with data warehousing and visualization tools such as Snowflake and Looker.
• Familiarity with C++ in real-time embedded systems or robotics.
• Ability to work onsite at our Waltham facility for direct interaction with teams and robots.
• Nice to have Jira/Jira Automation experience for project management and reporting.
• Experience with Bazel, Google Test infrastructure, Google Cloud Platform and Apache Airflow.
• Understanding of controls theory, motors, and embedded systems; RL or datasets experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Relentlessly improve data-quality by combining high-rate telemetry, diagnostics, and metadata into a robust Failure Analysis pipeline.
• Develop automated diagnostic tools to transition from manual troubleshooting to proactive health monitoring.
• Maintain automated diagnostic suites and off-robot systems to provide actionable feedback for hardware and software teams.
• Partner with stakeholders to understand requirements and improve reporting mechanisms.
