Iterative workflow processes support and challenge students to better understand their learning and acquire increasingly sophisticated strategies as engineers. The robotics season typically starts in September and goes through mid-March, depending on their advancement in the competition.

  • Attending competitions with students, some of which may occur in the evenings or on weekends
  • Using 3D CAD software to design robotic systems, employing various tools for building, and possessing coding knowledge with the ability to think algorithmically
  • Ordering and maintaining all equipment and supplies
  • Managing the student engineering notebook and binder
  • Creating a team schedule for design and building (minimum two-afternoon meetings per week from 2:30pm-5:30pm, with more needed during competition weeks)
  • Coordinating parent involvement at competitions
  • Working with other departments to create outreach opportunities and recruit new students to the robotics teams
  • Serving as technical support for the FTC team
  • Following all safety rules and guidelines of the FTC program and other competitions
  • Enforcing standards of gracious professionalism, behavior, and production quality
  • Implementing branding and marketing systems for the teams
  • Ensuring that all students are treated equally and rewarded for their efforts
  • Engage and support students of varied identities, lifestyles, and beliefs
  • Create an environment that fosters open discussion with the freedom to express varied points of view
  • Attending BCIL Collaborative Meetings, participating in Divisional Team Meetings, and contributing to various BCIL initiatives such as the innovation challenge, impact challenge, speaker series, and symposium
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the BCIL Director or the Senior Administrative Team

In addition, the robotics coach should demonstrate the following personal qualities:

  • Strong collaboration skills and cross-cultural competency
  • An interest in and openness to professional growth and development
