Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Mechanical Drafter in New York to join our hardware development team. You will produce detailed drawings and 3D models for robotic systems and translate concepts into manufacturable documentation for fabrication and assembly.

We expect 2+ years in a similar role, strong Onshape experience, and solid GD&T and tolerancing knowledge. This contract position is onsite in New York, with pay in the $50–$60/hr range plus benefits.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience as a mechanical drafter or in a similar role within a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software for mechanical part and assembly modeling, with strong preference for Onshape experience.
• Strong working knowledge of GD&T principles and their practical application.
• Solid understanding of mechanical tolerancing, fits (clearance, transition, interference), and surface finish specifications.
• Familiarity with revision control and ASME Y14 drawing standards.
• Ability to interpret engineering sketches and translate them into formal production drawings.
• Understanding of CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, 3D printing, and casting.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed technical drawings and 3D models for mechanical components and assemblies.
• Translate engineering concepts and specifications into precise, manufacturable documentation.
• Collaborate with mechanical designers on CAD dimensioning and drawings.
• Provide dimensioning and tolerancing feedback within 24 hours.
• Update drawings based on vendor feedback.
• Prepare mechanical designs in 3D CAD before sending them to manufacture.
