Job description

Job Description Overview

Ready to automate the processes that keep the Department of War’s finances running? As FWI’s RPA Engineer on the DA2I program, you’ll design, build, and sustain automation solutions on platforms like UiPath, Automation Anywhere, and Power Automate that make Comptroller business processes faster and more accurate. If you want your automation skills to support a real DoW mission, not just another bot, this is the seat. FWI is building a team to support the Department of War Comptroller and as an RPA Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and managing RPA solutions across the full automation lifecycle, from requirements analysis through deployment, monitoring, and maintenance, using SQL Server, Python/PySpark, SSIS, PowerShell, and Azure to improve business process efficiency and accuracy. FWI is expanding rapidly and has been recognized as a 2024, 2025 and 2026 Top Workplace, offering excellent growth opportunities in a collaborative environment.

Work Schedule and Location

Hybrid: This role is based in Arlington, Virginia and works on a hybrid schedule, typically 1–2 days on site per month, with the balance remote. We are looking for someone in the National Capital Region who can be on site when the mission calls for it, not only on a fixed schedule. Working alongside the government team in person is part of how this role builds the relationships the work depends on.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, implement, and manage Robotic Process Automation solutions that improve business process efficiency and accuracy across federal and commercial environments.
  • Support the full RPA lifecycle: requirements analysis, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Translate business requirements into scalable automation workflows.
  • Integrate automations with enterprise systems.
  • Ensure data integrity and maintain documentation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to resolve issues and enhance automation performance.
Qualifications

Required:

  • 3–10 years of directly related experience and a B.A./B.S. or M.A./M.S.
  • 3+ years of experience with major RPA platforms (UiPath, Automation Anywhere, Microsoft Power Automate).
  • Advanced proficiency in programming languages and tools including SQL Server, Python/PySpark, R, C#, SSIS, SSRS, PowerShell, and cloud environments such as Azure.
  • Ability to analyze business processes and translate requirements into automation workflows.
  • Strong independent troubleshooting skills for automation failures, including implementing corrective actions.
  • Experience creating technical documentation (process docs, solution designs, test plans, procedures).
  • Effective communicator with technical and non-technical stakeholders, able to work independently within standards.
  • Experience with Agile, DevSecOps, or structured software development methodologies to manage automation development, testing, deployment, and sustainment.
  • Active Secret Clearance.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert, Certified Scrum Master, or equivalent.
Desired
  • Experience supporting RPA solutions in environments subject to federal information security, data protection, audit, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience integrating RPA solutions with enterprise applications, databases, spreadsheets, web applications, APIs, or other structured and unstructured data sources.
  • Experience supporting an RPA automation lifecycle or automation center of excellence (CoE), including governance, standards, reusable components, and performance monitoring.
  • Experience with federal financial management, accounting, budget, audit, payment, or Comptroller-related business processes.

FWI is an Equal Opportunity Employer, including disability/vets.
