commonscompany is seeking a Roasting Assistant to support the Head Roaster in producing consistent coffee roasts, weighing and queuing batches, and assisting with color analysis and cuppings. The role also handles green coffee inventory and logistics, including off-site freezer transfers.
The position is part-time (25–29 hours per week) with a Mon-Fri 7am–9am schedule; candidates should be quick learners, extremely detail oriented, and comfortable in a structured environment with quality
The Roasting Assistant reports to the Head Roaster and is responsible for providing assistance to the roasting team. Tasks include coffee roasting, weighing and queuing of batches based on roast order, color analysis, color sorting, delivery of finished coffee to the fulfillment team, collection of samples, and upkeep of the roasting floor during production hours.
When not actively roasting, this role focuses on supporting team members running the roaster to allow them to focus on repeatability and quality of roasts. They also play an integral role in green coffee inventory management, which includes green coffee pickup and dropoff to an off-site freezer facility, managing inventory on the roasting floor, and supporting receiving processes. The Roasting Assistant is involved in quality control cuppings for setup, break down, density analysis, and sensory analysis. They are also engaged in scheduled roaster maintenance and cleaning.
