Job summary

The State of Iowa, through the Iowa Department of Transportation, is hiring a Highway Technician Associate. The role involves hands-on outdoor work along roadways, patching road surfaces, maintaining guardrails, signs, fences, and performing routine DOT equipment servicing.

Requirements include a CDL permit at hire, CDL class A endorsements within 5 months, residency within 45 minutes of Fort Dodge, and entry-level driver training. On-call shifts and some overnight travel may be required.

Qualifications

• CDL permit required at hire.
• Class A CDL endorsements/restrictions within 5 months of hire.
• Entry-level driver training provided on hire.

Responsibilities

• Patching roadway.
• Repairing and maintaining guardrails, signs, fences, lighting, culverts, and waterways.
• Participating in traffic control for maintenance activities.
• Picking up and disposing of litter and debris.
• Operating snow equipment to remove snow, ice, and frost from roadways.
• Mowing, brush control, and vegetation management; spraying.
