Job summary

Rinker Design Associates, LLC (RDA) is seeking a Roadway Engineer (Technical Lead) to join the Transportation team in Blacksburg, VA. The role focuses on roadway design, mentoring junior staff, and leading projects for Virginia transportation initiatives.

Ideal candidates have 4–6 years of roadway experience, a Civil/Transportation Engineering degree, and a PE or EIT with PE pursuit. Sign-on bonus offered and a comprehensive benefits package is provided.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil/Transportation Engineering or related field.
• 4-6 years of transportation/roadway engineering experience.
• Virginia PE license or EIT with ability to obtain PE within one year.
• Familiarity with VDOT standards and project delivery processes.
• Experience with OpenRoads Designer and/or MicroStation.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
• Interest in mentoring and developing junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Design roadway infrastructure: develop roadway designs, plan sets, and supporting documentation for VDOT and local projects.
• Deliver quality solutions: prepare engineering calculations, estimates, and construction documents per standards and client requirements.
• Collaborate across teams: work with engineers, planners, clients, and stakeholders to deliver projects.
• Build leadership: provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
• Expand impact: support project delivery and grow into increased technical and project responsibilities.
• Support a growing office: help strengthen mentoring capacity as the team expands.
