Job summary

DRMP is seeking a motivated Traffic Design Engineer to join our Transportation team in Raleigh, NC. The role focuses on traffic operations, safety, and roadway design support across North Carolina and beyond.

Responsibilities include preparing traffic signal and signing plans, working with DOT and municipal clients, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams. A Civil Engineering degree (ABET) and 2–6+ years of experience are expected; EIT is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited university.
• EIT certification preferred.
• 2–6+ years of traffic engineering experience.
• Experience with NCDOT or municipal transportation projects is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform traffic engineering and traffic design tasks for roadway, intersection, and corridor improvement projects.
• Assist with the preparation of traffic signal and signal communication plans, signing and pavement marking plans, and work zone traffic control plans in accordance with MUTCD and state DOT standards.
• Prepare technical memoranda, reports, and documentation for DOT and municipal clients.
• Coordinate with roadway, drainage, and planning teams to ensure traffic design integration.
• Apply DOT, MUTCD, and local agency standards to traffic design tasks.
• Assist senior engineers with data collection and field observations.
• Participate in client meetings and coordination with reviewing agencies as needed.
