Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers seeks a full-time highway maintenance technician in Virginia to perform snow and ice removal, traffic control, and pavement markings. You will operate light to heavy equipment, install and maintain traffic devices, and follow MUTCD standards to keep roadways safe.

The role requires CDL with endorsements, OSHA/VOSHA knowledge, and the ability to work in crews under varying conditions.

Qualifications

• Follow oral and written instructions and document work accurately.
• Obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter.
• Read and interpret roadway plans and sketches.
• Perform heavy manual labor as needed.
• Know federal/state regulations for traffic control devices.
• Work safely in work zone traffic control environments.

Responsibilities

• Emergency Operations: snow/ice removal, debris cleanup, traffic control.
• Operate and maintain highway equipment and vehicles for maintenance and construction tasks.
• Ensure work site protection and safety using MUTCD guidelines.
• Perform pavement marking installation and maintenance per MUTCD and standards.
• Install and maintain traffic control devices in work zones and detours.
• Complete pre-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment.
