Job summary

Iowa Department of Transportation in Avoca, IA is seeking a Highway Technician Associate to perform roadside maintenance and safety-focused duties. The role involves patching roadways, maintaining signs and guardrails, and assisting with traffic control during operations.

Typical hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with on-call duties during emergencies and weather events. Residency within 45 minutes of Avoca and CDL permit within five months are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Ability to obtain CDL permit within 5 months of hire.
• Residence within 45 minutes of Avoca work location within five months.

Responsibilities

• Patching roadway and maintaining surfaces.
• Repairing and maintaining guardrails, signs, fences, lighting, culverts and waterways.
• Participating in traffic control during maintenance activities.
• Picking up and disposing of litter and debris.
• Operating snow equipment to clear snow, ice and frost from roadways.
• Mowing, brush cutting and vegetation management including spraying.
