Job summary

Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) seeks a dedicated Transportation Technician I/II to join the Hooper crew. The role covers frontline highway upkeep and safety for the traveling public. Start level depends on qualifications with opportunities to advance through UDOT’s TEP program.

Responsibilities include operating heavy machinery, performing routine maintenance, and cross-training in inspection and materials testing after about 18 months. Strong outdoor work ethic is required.

Qualifications

• CDL with ability to obtain Class A within 6 months
• Able to report to Hooper Maintenance Station within 30-minute response time
• Able to lift 50 lbs
• Smartphone with data plan (department allowance)
• Willing to complete required certifications through UDOT TEP

Responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance on state routes, highways, and drainage features to ensure infrastructure longevity.
• Operate heavy machinery including snowplows, salt spreaders, and blowers to clear roadways during winter storms.
• Operate and maintain heavy equipment such as front-end loaders, backhoes, and graders.
• Use department software to track assets and document work by UDOT crews and contractors.
• Manage roadside vegetation using various methods including herbicide application.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
