Job summary

State of Iowa - Executive Branch is seeking a Highway Technician Associate to perform roadside maintenance, patching roadways, and repair of guardrails, signs, fencing, lighting, culverts, and waterways. Your day includes traffic control for maintenance, litter pickup, snow removal, mowing and vegetation spraying.

The role requires safety‑first practices, residency within 45 minutes of the work location, a 7:00 AM–3:30 PM shift, possible on‑call duties, and pre‑employment physical and drug

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Four years of education and/or full-time highway maintenance or equipment operation experience.
• CDL permit required by hire, with Class A endorsements within 5 months.
• Successful U.S. DOT Clearinghouse check.
• Pre-employment physical and drug screen; ongoing drug/alcohol testing.
• May obtain pesticide/herbicide certifications as needed.

Responsibilities

• Patching roadway
• Repairing and maintaining guardrails, signs, fences, lighting, culverts, and waterways
• Participating in traffic control for maintenance activities
• Picking up and disposing of litter and debris
• Operating snow equipment to remove snow, ice and frost from roadways
• Mowing, cutting brush, weed and vegetation control and spraying
