Job summary

The State of North Carolina - Department of Transportation seeks a Transportation Worker III to perform a wide range of maintenance tasks on state roads in Rowan County. You will operate heavy equipment, set up work zones, and assist with pipe installation and pothole repair.

Responsibilities include supervising inmates and other workers, responding to emergencies, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. CDL is required within 360 days of hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and five years of equipment operating experience; or an equivalent education/experience combination.
• CDL required on hire or obtained within 360 days per policy and FMCSA rules.
• Ability to operate multiple heavy equipment pieces safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Set up work zones and traffic control devices for road maintenance.
• Operate tools and equipment such as backhoes, graders, rollers, and dump trucks.
• transport inmates for work detail as needed and monitor crew activities.
• Respond to emergencies including snow/ice removal and debris clearing.
• Supervise and train other transportation workers on equipment operations.
