Qualifications

Job Description - Roadway Maintenance Tech I or II (2500117)

Position Information

Looking for an exciting and challenging career in transportation? We are currently seeking a General Transportation Tech I or II to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for performing a wide range of duties related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of highways, bridges, and other transportation infrastructure. You will work in a team environment to operate light and heavy equipment. Work alongside other full-time employees with duties ranging from sign replacement, herbicide application, roadway level-up, edge repair, tree trimming, litter pick-up, project inspection and much more. You will also assist with various construction and maintenance projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, the ability to work well in a team environment, and a willingness to learn and develop new skills. Job Responsibilities

Performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as:

  • Roadway maintenance and repair
  • Light and heavy equipment operation
  • Preventive and minor maintenance on equipment
  • Traffic control
  • Helping the public during emergency situations

Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience: No experience required

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license at the time of application. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Must have a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with an "N" Endorsement or have obtained a CDL "A” License, within 120 calendar days from date of employment.

Experience: 1 Year transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Commercial Driver’s License
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
  • Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and above 100 degrees for more than one hour
  • Subject to noise
  • Subject to hazards - moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals
  • Required to wear protective gear - respirator, hard hat, or other devices
