Job summary

The Arkansas Department of Transportation, District 8, Pope County, Russellville, AR, is seeking a Maintenance Aide I to operate a single-axle truck or tractor with mowing apparatus and perform road maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities include mowing with large tractors, landscape maintenance, flagging traffic, handling salt and sand during winter, and assisting with signs and cones for work zones. A valid driver’s license and CDL are required within specified timelines.

Qualifications

Ability to read, write and speak English sufficiently to converse with the public and understand signs and records.
Experience operating a truck, tractor or heavy equipment preferred.
Valid driver’s license required; CDL within specified timelines.

Responsibilities

Maintain control of grass and weeds by mowing using large tractors and gang mowers.
Perform landscape maintenance and tree cutting on highway rights-of-way and facilities with weed-eaters and power tools.
Operate single-axle dump truck hauling highway materials.
Use power equipment and hand tools for highway repairs.
Load, unload, and stack bags of salt, sand, cement, chemicals, etc.
Flag traffic and assist with setting up signs and cones for work zones.
Respond to emergencies 24/7 and participate in ice/snow operations as needed.
