Job summary

The Arkansas Department of Transportation invites applications for a Maintenance Aide I. Under general supervision, you will operate a single axle truck or tractor with mowing equipment, and perform road maintenance duties across highways.

A valid driver’s license is required, with the CDL written test within 90 days and driving test within 180 days. A pre-employment drug/alcohol test applies; no bachelor’s degree or visa sponsorship is offered.

Qualifications

• Must read, write and speak English well.
• Experience operating a truck, tractor or heavy equipment preferred.
• CDL candidate: must pass written portion within 90 days and driving portion within 180 days.

Responsibilities

• Mow grass with tractors and gang mowers.
• Landscape maintenance and tree cutting on highway rights-of-way.
• Operate single-axle dump trucks hauling materials.
• Use hand tools and small power equipment for repairs.
• Load, unload and stack bags of salt, sand, cement and chemicals.
• Pick up litter and debris along roadways.
• Flag traffic and assist with setting up signs and cones for work zones.
• Respond to emergencies and snow/ice operations as needed.
