Job summary

The Oregon Department of Transportation is seeking a Highway Maintenance Specialist (Limited Duration) for the Madras area. You will join the Delivery and Operations Division – Region 4, Maintenance Crew, Madras, operating equipment to maintain roads and bridges.

This limited-duration role is anticipated to last about one year and may become permanent. As part of Oregon's multimodal transportation system, you will support emergency response, routine upkeep, and safety-focused maintenance while

Qualifications

• One year of experience performing basic highway maintenance work.
• Two years of general landscaping, maintenance, mechanical, farming, logging, and/or construction experience or training.
• CDL-A with tanker endorsement required (or ability to obtain) within specified timelines; FMCSA policy applies.
• A valid U.S. driver license and acceptable driving record; pre-employment checks will be performed.

Responsibilities

• Assist with weather-related emergencies and operate snowplows, deicer trucks and other equipment to clear snow from roadways.
• Operate heavy and light equipment to maintain and repair surfaces.
• Perform minor surface repairs including pothole and concrete patching and small inlay work.
• Maintain and repair fences, guardrails, concrete barriers and milepost markers.
• Clear debris, brush, mow grass and spray roadside vegetation.
• Maintain drainage systems, dig and clean ditches and repair culverts, inlets and erosion.
• Maintain wooded areas including replanting and trimming trees and shrubs.
• Service and repair tools and motorized equipment.
• Perform minor maintenance including janitorial work, landscaping, painting and light carpentry.
