Job summary

Commonwealth of Virginia Careers is hiring for a full-time/part-time roadway maintenance position. You will operate and maintain light, medium, and heavy equipment, perform snow removal, and apply MUTCD guidelines to ensure safe work zones.

You must meet CDL/DOT requirements within 11 months, perform manual labor, and follow safety procedures while collaborating with a crew on road projects across the state.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions.
• Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Emergency Operations: Operate and maintain light and medium-duty equipment to perform maintenance and construction tasks.
• Emergency Operations: Prepare and operate equipment for snow and ice removal or other emergencies; clear roadways and provide traffic control.
• Equipment Operations: Operate and maintain highway equipment and vehicles for maintenance and repair.
• Job Safety: Apply safety rules, wear PPE, and follow OSHA/VOSHA regulations and MUTCD guidelines.
• Manual Labor: Work as part of the crew to complete projects and perform maintenance tasks.
• Preventive Maintenance: Perform repairs, replacements, and pre-trip inspections.
