Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking diligent workers for roadway maintenance roles. You will operate and maintain light to heavy highway equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and engage in manual labor to support construction and emergency responses.

Key duties include traffic control device installation, road clearance for snow/ice, and ensuring work site safety per OSHA/VOSHA standards. A CDL with endorsements is required or obtainable within 11 months.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written (as stated).
• Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions.
• Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain light, medium and heavy-duty highway equipment.
• Perform emergency roadway operations as an essential employee.
• Protect work sites and follow safety rules and procedures (OSHA, VOSHA).
• Install, maintain and remove traffic control devices for work zones using MUTCD.
• Participate as a working member of the crew to complete projects and objectives.
