Job summary

State of Louisiana DOTD in West Baton Rouge Parish is seeking a Mobile Equipment Operator to maintain and repair roads, with primary focus on vegetation control along highway rights-of-way, in District 61/Unit 590, Port Allen. Reports to the Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendent.

Position requires a Class A CDL before appointment and four years of comparable experience in road/bridge/ground maintenance or heavy machinery operation. Safety compliance and training duties are included.

Qualifications

• Four years of experience in the construction, maintenance, or repair of roads, bridges, levees, drainage facilities, wharfs, buildings, or grounds.
• Four years of experience in the operation or maintenance of industrial or heavy mobile equipment.
• A valid Class A, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be required upon appointment.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, trains and assists a maintenance crew in routine maintenance functions such as pothole patching, pavement repair, drainage work, mowing, shoulder repairs, litter cleanup, tree removal, etc.
• Supervises equipment and ensures proper servicing and upkeep to minimize downtime for safe operation.
• Supervises staff in safety equipment provision and ensures work sites are properly signed.
• Prepares daily work reports, incident/accident reports, and may assist in payroll preparation.
• Conducts Performance Evaluation System sessions and counsels subordinates.
