Job summary

Caltrans is seeking a Highway Maintenance Worker to operate Category 1 and Category 2 equipment and to work with a crew on highway maintenance tasks. The job requires overtime, nights, and weekend work as needed during storms, emergencies, or special projects.

The incumbent will operate end-dump trucks (2–10 cu. yds) and may use front-end loaders, graders and other related vehicles to complete tasks such as paving, shoulder grading, mowing, ditch cleaning, and repair of signs and guardrails,

Qualifications

• Experience operating highway maintenance equipment.
• Willingness to work overtime, nights and weekends.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and operate heavy machinery.

Responsibilities

• Operate end-dump trucks (2–10 cu. yds) with automatic or manual transmission.
• Perform paving, shoulder grading, mowing, ditch cleaning and culvert maintenance.
• Repair or replace signs, guardrails, fences and related structures.
• Assure traffic control and clean up litter; maintain roadside rest areas and facilities.
