Job summary

State of South Carolina, through the Department of Transportation, seeks an inspector to assist with weekly progress and final inspections of encroachment permits, maintenance contracts, and EDM-aligned goals in Beaufort County. The role covers daytime inspections on primary and secondary routes, reviewing shoulder/ditch plans, pavement markings, signs, and drainage.

You will maintain daily diaries, enter HMMS data, and report findings to supervision.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and 1 year related experience.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform field inspections.
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist with weekly progress and final inspections of encroachment permits and maintenance contracts.
• Inspect road features such as shoulder/ditch, pavement markings, signs, drainage, and guards on primary and secondary routes.
• Review and track maintenance contract work, enter data into HMMS, and maintain daily diaries and work requests.
• Assist in formal walk-through inspections of guardrails and crash attenuators; ensure compliance with EDM guidelines.
• Respond to emergencies and inclement weather, and process related reports and claims.
