Job summary

Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. (ESS) is seeking a Roadway Estimator to develop detailed estimates for highway construction projects, including grading, earthwork, base rock, and traffic control. You will analyze plans and specifications to produce accurate takeoffs and cost estimates.

The role collaborates with field teams, vendors, and subcontractors, coordinates pricing, evaluates equipment rates, and supports bid strategy and risk assessment for competitive bids.

Qualifications

• Experience in highway, roadway, or transportation infrastructure construction.
• Understanding of grading operations and earthwork production.
• Ability to interpret roadway design plans and construction sequencing.
• Knowledge of MoDOT specifications and bidding procedures.

Responsibilities

• Analyze roadway plans, profiles, cross sections, and specifications.
• Complete earthwork calculations and mass haul evaluations.
• Prepare quantity takeoffs for grading, aggregate base, stabilization, guardrail, signage, and roadway features.
• Evaluate equipment production rates and manpower requirements.
• Coordinate pricing from vendors and subcontractors.
• Assist with bid strategy development and risk assessments.
• Support field teams during project startup and estimate turnover.
