Job summary

State of Nevada in Elko is seeking a Highway Equipment Mechanic 1 to diagnose, maintain, and repair a fleet of light to heavy highway maintenance equipment. Duties include repairing brakes, steering, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical systems, and fabricating parts.

Qualifications

Completion of a recognized automotive/equipment repair apprenticeship program; OR completion of the Equipment Mechanic-in-Training program in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

Diagnose and repair component or system failures using tests, manuals, and diagnostic tools.
Repair and rebuild brakes, steering, suspensions and powertrain components.
Service hydraulic systems, pumps, valves, and hoses; fabricate parts as needed.
Repair electrical systems including batteries, starters, alternators, and wiring.
Design and fabricate basic mechanical hardware as required for equipment.
