Job summary

GFT in Schaumburg, IL is seeking a Roadway Engineering Intern for the Mid-May through mid-August timeframe. You will gain real-world experience on highway, bridge and traffic projects, supported by mentors and a collaborative team to deliver safe, resilient roadways.

You’ll create engineering drawings with MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer or AutoCAD, assist with basic calculations, and participate in field inspections. Most interns transition to full-time roles after the internship.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in ABET-accredited undergraduate or graduate Civil Engineering program.
• Interest or prior internship in Roadway/Highway Engineering, including design, inspection, and construction.
• Basic proficiency in CAD, spreadsheets, interpreting design drawings, and technical writing.

Responsibilities

• Support real client projects by creating engineering drawings using MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer or AutoCAD.
• Assist in basic engineering tasks such as calculations and data input into analysis software.
• Participate in field assignments including inspections of roadways and highways.
• Review drawings, proofreading reports, and provide engineering support tasks.
