Job summary

Arrow Electric Co Inc is seeking a Roadway Electrician in Kentucky to install, maintain, and troubleshoot roadway electrical systems including traffic signals and highway lighting. You will work with foremen to complete DOT projects safely and efficiently in active work zones.

The role requires strong knowledge of electrical systems, adherence to NEC and KYTC standards, and the ability to work independently while coordinating with inspectors and utilities.

Qualifications

• Valid Kentucky Electrical License (Journeyman or Master)
• High school diploma or GED required
• Completion of electrical apprenticeship or equivalent experience
• 4–7+ years of electrical construction experience (roadway or outdoor infrastructure preferred)
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, controls, and troubleshooting

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and troubleshoot traffic signal systems (controllers, cabinets, signal heads, detection)
• Install roadway and highway lighting systems (poles, luminaires, wiring, controls)
• Perform wire terminations, splicing, and electrical testing
• Interpret blueprints, schematics, and specifications
• Ensure installations comply with NEC, KYTC specs, and local regulations
• Coordinate with Foreman and inspectors; support field leadership
• Maintain tools, equipment, and materials in good condition

Position Summary

The Roadway Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of roadway electrical systems including traffic signals, highway lighting, ITS systems, and associated infrastructure. This role requires a high level of technical expertise and the ability to work independently while supporting Foremen and field leadership in executing projects safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) standards.

Work includes projects of all magnitudes, from small municipal upgrades to large-scale DOT roadway infrastructure installations in active traffic environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

• Install, maintain, and troubleshoot:
• Traffic signal systems (controllers, cabinets, signal heads, detection systems)
• Roadway and highway lighting systems (poles, luminaires, wiring, controls)
• Electrical distribution systems (services, panels, grounding systems)
• ITS and communication systems (fiber optics, cameras, dynamic message signs)
• Perform wire terminations, splicing, and electrical testing
• Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and specifications
• Ensure all installations comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC), KYTC specifications, and local regulations
• Assist Foreman with layout, planning, and execution of work
• Diagnose and resolve electrical issues with minimal supervision
• Perform underground conduit installation and wire pulls
• Verify grounding and bonding of all systems
• Conduct system testing, startup, and commissioning
• Maintain accurate documentation including as-builts and testing results
• Coordinate with inspectors, utilities, and other trades
• Maintain tools, equipment, and materials in proper working condition

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

• Valid Kentucky Electrical License (Journeyman or Master Electrician)
• High school diploma or GED required
• Completion of electrical apprenticeship or equivalent experience
• 4–7+ years of electrical construction experience (roadway or outdoor infrastructure preferred)
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, controls, and troubleshooting
