Job summary

A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT) seeks a highly motivated Civil Engineering undergraduate student to join as a Transportation Engineer Intern in our Richmond, Virginia office for the 2027 summer internship period.

The internship is paid, full-time from mid-June to mid-August 2027 and may transition into a full-time position after graduation. The selected candidate will work under Project Managers and Design Team Leaders, performing roadway, traffic and hydraulic design tasks,

Qualifications

• Rising 3rd or 4th year BSCE student with minimum GPA 3.0.
• Eligible to work in the United States.
• Strong verbal and written communication.
• Interest in roadway design, traffic engineering or hydraulic design.

Responsibilities

• Prepare roadway, trail and sidewalk design plans using ORD and MicroStation.
• Prepare meeting exhibits and construction plans.
• Prepare Basis of Design reports and specifications.
• Identify potential utility conflicts and avoidance measures.
• Calculate quantities and prepare cost estimates.
• Conduct site visits and field inspections.
• Assist design and related tasks as directed.
