Job summary

Pape‑Dawson Engineers in Nashville is seeking Transportation Engineer Interns for Summer 2027 to support roadway design efforts under a licensed P.E. supervisor. The role offers hands‑on experience with design tools, technical docs, and project coordination in a collaborative environment.

You will assist with roadway design tasks, evaluate alternatives, and engage in field activities and data collection while developing skills in Civil 3D, ORD, and open‑road workflows.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a B.S. in Civil Engineering from ABET‑accredited college or university.
• Familiarity with engineering principles, practices, and procedures.
• Basic proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, ORD, Word and Excel.
• Effective written and verbal communication; able to work independently and in a team.
• Adaptable and flexible in managing shifting priorities and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and design of roadway projects, including plans, specs, and cost estimates.
• Evaluate design alternatives by analyzing sections, alignments, ROW needs, and costs.
• Support reviews of transportation plans for compliance with standards and scope.
• Develop design options by analyzing objectives, constraints, and basic parameters.
• Analyze design features to ensure alignment with project purpose and standards.
• Use CAD/design software to produce drawings, exhibits, and supporting docs.
• Prepare technical reports, memoranda, and studies using approved formats.
• Participate in site visits, field activities, and data collection as assigned.
• Assist with redlines, submittals, exhibits, and record drawings.
• Perform progressively more complex tasks as experience grows.
