Job summary

Pape-Dawson is seeking Transportation Engineer Interns in our Nashville office for the summer of 2027 focusing on roadway design. The Engineer Intern supports project teams under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.), assisting with design tasks on a variety of infrastructure projects within transportation.

This entry-level role provides hands-on experience with design tools, technical documentation, and project coordination within a collaborative engineering environment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing BS in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited college.
• Familiarity with engineering principles and practices.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, Open Roads Designer, Word, and Excel.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Able to work independently and in a team.
• Adaptable to shifting priorities and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and design of roadway projects, including plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Evaluate design alternatives by analyzing alignments, typical sections, right-of-way needs, and costs.
• Support reviews of transportation plans for standards and scope.
• Develop design options by analyzing objectives and constraints.
• Prepare technical reports and analyses using approved formats.
• Participate in site visits, field activities, and data collection.
• Assist with redlines, submittals, and record drawings.
