Job summary

Volkert is seeking a junior level Roadway/Civil Engineer in Training to support our Mid Atlantic Region based in Springfield, VA. You’ll gain familiarity with plan quantities, estimates, specifications, and coordination with subconsultants, while learning from more senior engineers to execute and deliver projects.

You will apply established techniques and contribute to reports, plans, schedules, and designs.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university
  • 1-4 years relevant experience in roadway or civil design
  • FE/EIT is preferred
  • Internship or prior work related experience a bonus but not required
  • MicroStation/AutoCAD experience a bonus
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment
  • Valid driver’s license
  • A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)

Responsibilities

  • Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies
  • Attends appropriate team meetings
  • Adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results
  • Identify and analyze problems using reasoning to arrive at conclusions
  • Applies standard practices and techniques to accomplish work assignments
  • Understands and adheres to assigned phase and task schedules and budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of project
  • Adheres to company standards for quality assurance and quality control as defined in the quality manual

What you’ll be doing:

  • Aspires to work in a team environment. Work as part of a team to deliver a range of transportation and civil design projects
  • Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies. Coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members
  • Attends appropriate team meetings
  • Adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results
  • Identify and analyze problems using reasoning to arrive at conclusions
  • Applies standard practices and techniques to accomplish work assignments

What you need to have:
