Job summary

Volkert is seeking an experienced Roadway Project Manager to support transportation design projects in the Mid-Atlantic Region from our Washington DC or Springfield, VA offices.

The ideal candidate will coordinate and oversee roadway design staff and projects, managing plan reviews, schedules, and client communications to deliver quality designs and successful project outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required.
  • Minimum ten years of relevant industry experience.
  • DC PE is required or license reciprocity with state board.
  • Experience with DDOT, MDOT SHA, or VDOT is a plus.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.

Job description

Volkert is searching for an experienced Roadway Project Manager to support transportation design projects in our Mid-Atlantic Region in ourWashington DC or Springfield, VA office.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for coordination and oversight of roadway design projects and roadway design staff.

To be considered for this position, applicants must have, at minimum, a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Provide plan review and project management for Volkert clients in the Mid-Atlantic region
  • Responsible for organizing activities, schedules, and reporting in support of assigned projects
  • Prepare, issue and track project documentation such as contracts, change orders, client sign-off, etc. for all phases of assigned project work
  • Prepare correspondence and documents with clients, vendors and regulatory agencies as required
  • Assist with other documents such as invoices and purchase orders; and communicate with outside resources when needed
  • Preparing and/or editing meeting minutes and presentations
  • Assist with project submittals and bidding activities
  • Provide support to project team as requested
  • Support our team and client by providing technical and administrative support
  • Market new and existing clients
  • Interacting with clients and the public related to your work and understanding the context of the plans you develop
  • Lead or assist in the development of project designs and directing designers to successfully execute and deliver project work, while implementing client focused strategies
  • Aspiring to work in a team environment and participating in business development efforts and meetings with clients. Working as part of a team to deliver a range of transportation and civil design projects
  • Identifying and analyzing problems using reasoning to arrive at sound engineering conclusions
  • Adhering to company standards for quality assurance and quality control as defined in the quality manual
What you need to have:
  • BS degree in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant industry experience
  • At least five (5) years of progressive responsibility within the industry
  • DDOT roadway design experience. Experience with other regional clients such as VDOT and MD SHA, a plus.
  • DC PE is required
  • Experience in DOT design methods, plan preparation, standards, and specifications
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines.
  • If applicable to the position, a post offer fit for duty evaluation to ensure the individual can safely perform the essential functions of the role.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR).
