Job summary

Texas Department of Transportation seeks Construction Inspectors I–III to ensure roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related structures meet plans and specs. Positions may involve supervising on large projects or statewide inspection on airport improvements, reporting to a licensed professional engineer, with routine contractor contact.

Roles require participation in inspections, testing, and documentation, with opportunities to lead teams, mentor newer inspectors, and progress through I–III

Qualifications

• High School Grad or Equivalent required.
• Valid US driver’s license required.
• Experience in construction inspection or related field preferred.
• Ability to interpret plans and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Inspect construction methods and workmanship to ensure compliance with plans and specs.
• Attend pre-construction meetings and respond to contractor questions.
• Calculate payments due to contractors for work performed.
• Monitor traffic control plans and safety standards on site.
• Maintain project records and generate progress reports.
• Mentor less experienced inspectors on methods and procedures.
