Job summary

The Illinois Tollway is seeking a skilled Auto Mechanic to repair and maintain a range of vehicles and heavy equipment used in roadway maintenance. The successful candidate will perform inspections, diagnostics and welding, ensuring safety and reliability of the Tollway fleet.

Role requires 4–8 years of automotive experience, High School diploma, and a CDL Class A with air brakes endorsement within 30 days.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or equivalent.
• 4–8 years of mechanical experience in automotive, truck, and/or equipment repair and maintenance.
• CDL Class A with air brakes endorsement required within 30 days of employment; obtain and maintain license.
• Must pass ISTHA Mechanic test with 65% or higher.
• Physical requirements: lift, pull/push 50 lbs; stand, crouch, sit, walk as specified.

Responsibilities

• Performs repairs and maintenance on Authority automobiles, trucks, tractors, salt spreaders, snow plows and construction equipment.
• Inspects automotive, trucks and equipment for serviceability and prepares reports.
• Uses standard automotive tools and equipment; operates welding equipment as needed.
• Attends training sessions on-site or off-site; may work varied shifts and be on-call for emergencies.
• Performs supplemental duties as assigned by Supervisor.
