Job summary

Arkansas Department of Transportation, District 6, Garland County, Hot Springs, AR, is seeking a Maintenance Aide I to operate a single-axle truck or tractor with a mowing apparatus and perform road maintenance tasks.

The role requires reading and following instructions, basic math and computer skills, and the ability to learn local street names. CDL certification must be obtained within stated timelines; pre-employment drug/alcohol testing applies.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and speak English sufficiently to converse with the public and understand traffic signs and to make entries on records.
• Experience operating a truck, tractor or heavy equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain control of grass and weeds by mowing using large tractors and gang mowers.
• Operate single-axle dump truck hauling highway construction or maintenance materials.
• Use power equipment and hand tools to make repairs to highways.
• Load, unload and stack bags of salt, sand, cement, chemicals, etc.
• Flag traffic and assist with setting up signs and cones for work zones.
• Respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week on occasions.
• Work during ice and snow removal operations on occasions.
