Job summary

Brookline DPW’s Engineering & Transportation Division is hiring a Permit Inspector to perform inspection and administrative work that safeguards public safety and infrastructure in town. This role focuses on issuing, monitoring, and evaluating permits for construction in public ways, sewer/water connections, and occupancy of town-owned property, ensuring compliance with bylaws and engineering standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma with technical training equivalent to an Associate’s Degree.
• 3–5 years of road construction, underground construction, trenching, or pavement restoration experience.
• Valid Driver’s License, Class D.

Responsibilities

• Manage and issue permits for construction in public ways, utilities, or town-owned property.
• Perform field inspections and DigSafe mark-outs for open trench locations.
• Enforce town bylaws and accessibility regulations, including sidewalk snow/ice clearance.
• Conduct final inspections for Certificates of Occupancy and coordinate with town officials.
