Job summary

WSP is seeking a Design Manager for the SDF Roads team to lead the technical delivery of moderately complex projects in the London & South East region. You will manage design teams, coordinate stakeholders, and ensure deliverables meet client requirements and WSP procedures.

You will guide risk management, plan project lifecycles, watch cost/quality/time targets, and mentor colleagues while promoting health and safety and CDM compliance.

Qualifications

• University degree in civil engineering or related discipline.
• Chartered or Incorporated status preferred but not essential.
• Experience on large, technically complex multi-disciplinary civil projects.
• Understanding of client and business needs with focus on margin & contract compliance.
• Knowledge of construction contracts (e.g., NEC) is advantageous.
• Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership for successful delivery of multi-disciplinary projects on the framework.
• Manage and coordinate design teams; communicate with all parties.
• Identify and manage design risks.
• Plan and monitor project performance across the lifecycle.
• Ensure deliverables meet cost/quality/time targets.
• Provide a Check/Review role for technical work per WSP quality requirements.
• Act as a role model, line manager and mentor within the Roads team.
• Champion health and safety, including safety in design and CDM compliance.
• Respond to client directions professionally and maintain client relationships.
