Job summary

The Lincoln County Highway Department is seeking an Equipment Operator in Canton, SD. You will work in a team, performing snow removal, paving, crack sealing, and road upkeep to keep Lincoln County roads safe.

Responsibilities include operating graders, dozers, trucks, and other equipment, installing signs, and assisting with maintenance tasks. A CDL Class A with HazMat endorsement is highly valued.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus three years as Heavy Equipment Operator or equivalent experience.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible to receive a Commercial Class A CDL.
• Criminal background check, driving records check, and pre-employment drug test required.
• Hazardous materials endorsement on CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate motor grader for finish grade work.
• Operate tractor/trailer and lawn mower for roadside maintenance.
• Operate dozer with attachments for road work.
• Operate heavy-duty snowplows and trucks, plow snow and apply sand-chemical mixtures.
• Install and maintain traffic signs and remove vegetation.
• Perform labor tasks including sign installation, culverts, flagging, debris removal, tree cutting, shop/grounds cleaning, and equipment servicing.
• Service and minor repairs on equipment; purchase parts.
• Perform construction tasks as assigned to complete maintenance work.
