Job summary

Calhoun County Government is seeking an experienced Mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy equipment used by the Road Department. You will work on loaders, graders, mowers, and related machinery, handling mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and fabrication tasks to keep equipment safe and operational.

The role requires reading blueprints and diagrams, performing engine tune-ups, and fabricating parts as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
• Specialized mechanical training preferred.
• 3–5 years as a mechanic; experience with road operation vehicles preferred.
• Michigan Master Auto/Truck Certification preferred; CDL Class B with Air Brakes and DOT Physical Card desirable.
• Diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems knowledge required.

Responsibilities

• Inspect equipment for safety and maintenance needs.
• Repair and service diesel and gasoline engines and machinery.
• Repair powertrain components including transmissions and differentials.
• Read blueprints and electrical diagrams for installation and troubleshooting.
• Fabricate and repair components using welding and cutting equipment.
• Maintain clean, safe work areas and record maintenance activities.
• Work with supervisors and operators to coordinate repairs and service calls.
• Adhere to safety rules and maintain required certifications.
