Job summary

Calhoun County Government in Olive Branch, MS, seeks a skilled Mechanic to diagnose, repair and maintain heavy equipment used by the Road Department, including loaders and graders. The role covers mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and fabrication work to ensure safe, reliable operation on-site.

The successful candidate will perform inspections, repairs and tune-ups, read blueprints and diagrams, and collaborate with others to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; specialized mechanical training preferred.
• Technical knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems.
• 3–5 years of mechanic experience; road operation vehicle experience preferred.
• State certification and licenses such as MI Master Auto/Truck, CDL B with Air Brakes, DOT Physical.
• Ability to work with diverse teams and safety-conscious practices.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair and maintain heavy equipment and road dept vehicles.
• Perform engine tune-ups and diagnose mechanical/electrical/hydraulic issues.
• Read blueprints and electrical diagrams to troubleshoot systems.
• Fabricate and repair components; install and align brakes and suspensions.
• Maintain safety, housekeeping and paperwork for maintenance records.
