The Tattnall County Road Department is currently seeking a dedicated hardworking individual to join our team. In this position, you will be scheduling/supervising employees on various projects in the day-to-day operations. Our ideal candidate should have the ability to pay attention to details, excellent communication, and a focus on increasing efficiency and accountability. It is equally important that they be willing and able to learn new skills and knowledge within the Road Department.
Job Responsibilities and Duties
- Schedules work crews and assign daily duties.
- Assists the Project Consultant in the development of road maintenance projects
- Respond to complaints from the general public.
- Inspect the departments work in progress
- Conducts onsite inspections of work in progress.
- Installs culverts, digs and clears ditches, and clears rights of way.
- Oversees the maintenance of County roads.
- Assists with the right of way acquisitions.
- Supervises road maintenance crews and assists in the performance of duties necessary to maintain and repair County roads and ditches
- Processes paperwork: verifies easements, requests permissions to enter private property; etc.
- Trains personnel in safety and operating procedures.
Skills and Qualification
- Must have a Class A CDL Ga. License
- Knowledge of public administration
- Thorough knowledge of proper road construction and maintenance procedures.
- Knowledge of proper ditching and pipe laying procedures.
- Knowledge of local building codes and ordinances and relevant state and federal laws; knowledge of department and safety policies and procedures.
- Skills in reading plats and maps.
- Skills in operating tools and equipment used in ditch and pipe laying work, such as a tractor, motor grader, front end loader, and water truck.
- 5-7 years of experience in road maintenance and repair, heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
- Preferable supervisory experience
- High School Diploma /GED; supplemented by vocational/technical training a plus
- Strong analytical skills
- Diligence, prioritization skill, and time management
