Job summary

Pueblo County is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator for road and bridge repair, maintenance, and construction projects. The role involves operating a variety of heavy equipment, performing snowplowing, and ensuring safe conditions on worksites.

This internal lateral opportunity is limited to current employees within the Public Works department, with preference for the #1822 job code series as per the union agreement.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of heavy equipment operating experience in road maintenance/road construction.
• High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
• Possession of valid Class A CDL with tanker and air brake endorsements is required.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy equipment such as dozers, motor graders, front end loaders, backhoes, excavators, chip spreaders, tandem dump trucks, single axle dump trucks, water trucks, lowboys, fuel trucks, sweepers and similar equipment in performing road and drainage repair and maintenance tasks.
• Performs snowplowing and sanding.
• Performs vehicle and equipment inspections to ensure a safe operating condition.
• Performs traffic control, flagging, and signing for projects.
• Completes tasks in support of road maintenance to include carpentry work, fence installation, jack hammering, painting, erosion and drainage control, tree trimming, grounds maintenance, cattle guard replacements, refuge removal, weed mowing/control.
• Monitors and accounts for materials usage.
• Performs other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.
