The role includes planning, implementing, educating, and evaluating care for patients with skin impairment, ostomies, and complex wounds in inpatient and outpatient settings. The ideal candidate has at least one year in nursing, a bachelor’s degree, and must obtain CWOCN, CWON, or WCC credentials within two years of hire.
The Wound, Ostomy, Continence-RN is a nurse specialist whose scope of practice involves the age-specific care of patients aged neonate through geriatric; includes planning, implementing, educating, and evaluating the care of patients with impaired skin integrity, ostomies, and complex or chronic wounds, including surgical wounds. As a clinician, the Wound, Ostomy, Continence-RN provides direct patient care, consultations, assessments, recommendations, and ongoing re-evaluation of nursing care for hospitalized patients and outpatients under the specific scope of practice. The Wound, Ostomy, Continence-RN is a resource for nursing staff, patients, families, and physicians. The Wound, Ostomy, Continence-RN sees patients with a physician or nursing consult as ordered through EPIC.
