POSITION PURPOSE:
Be in charge of a group of dedicated nurses, ensuring they provide the highest quality of care for residents. Responsibilities include hiring, orientation, monitoring skills and training, working with doctors, obtaining medications, and maintaining accurate treatment records.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:
- Supervise nursing unit including scheduling and directing nursing staff
- Coordinate effective use of personnel, supplies, equipment, and facilities; obtain medications and medical records to provide safe, efficient, and therapeutic care to residents
- Contact physicians as necessary and ensure timely and appropriate physician interventions; ensure proper documentation of resident care
- Review staffing patterns and census of nursing units; reassign personnel when necessary to meet residents' needs and budget constraints
- Investigate complaints and take necessary actions to resolve problems
- Be responsible during the shift for the total nursing care of residents in the assigned unit
- Ensure compliance with Federal, State, Local, and company regulations
- Explain procedures, treatments, and care plans to residents
- Transcribe physician's orders to resident charts, medication/treatment cards, and care plans as required
- Chart progress notes factually, reflecting care administered and residents' responses
- Receive and give reports to/from relieving nurses and record sufficient information for follow-up
- Follow procedures for charting and reporting incidents/accidents
- Conduct rounds to evaluate care effectiveness and maintain resident safety and comfort
- Prepare equipment and assist physicians during treatments and examinations
- Observe residents, record significant conditions and reactions, and notify supervisors or physicians as needed
- Take vital signs to monitor resident health
- Respond to emergency situations per standards and protocols
- Assist in completing care plans and participate in care conferences
- Report and investigate any suspected abuse
- Ensure care plan adherence and proper documentation
- Monitor documentation completion and facilitate accurate medical records
- Perform other RN duties as required and additional duties as assigned
EDUCATION / REQUIREMENTS:
Current State Registered Nurse license with at least 2 years of related experience or equivalent education and experience. Good standing in the state registry is required.
