vTech Solution is seeking a Registered Nurse for our Urgent Care team in Alaska. The role involves conducting comprehensive patient assessments, triage, administering medications and IV therapy, and coordinating care to promote timely, safe outcomes.

Ideal candidates hold an Alaska RN license (or be eligible) with at least 2 years of nursing experience, including ambulatory/urgent care. BLS is preferred; on-site shifts with potential on-call duties.

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Urgent Care setting is responsible for providing timely and appropriate nursing care to patients of all ages, promoting quality, evidence-based, and cost-effective health outcomes. The role involves performing full patient assessments, prioritizing patient needs and flow, administering medications and treatments, coordinating care, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary nursing team. The RN uses critical thinking within standing orders to expedite care and may support other nursing roles as needed to ensure comprehensive departmental coverage.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform initial triage and comprehensive assessments of urgent care patients.
  • Provide telephone triage and advice regarding self-care or appropriate care options.
  • Administer medications via various routes including oral, topical, IM, SQ, intradermal, IV push, and infusion.
  • Initiate, maintain, monitor, and discontinue IV therapy, including mixing secondary IV medications.
  • Document patient assessments, interventions, education, and follow-up in medical records.
  • Maintain a clean, safe working environment and ensure adequate supplies and equipment functionality.
  • Adhere to infection control policies and complete required annual competencies.
  • Coordinate patient referrals within and outside the healthcare system, tracking progress and outcomes.
  • Conduct next-day follow-up calls to patients and manage each situation appropriately.
  • Participate in team collaboration, clinical team development, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Respond to emergency situations and participate in triage roles as needed.
  • Serve as vaccine coordinator or secondary vaccine coordinator when assigned.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support comprehensive health services.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school and qualified to take the NCLEX.
  • Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alaska or another U.S. state (Alaska license application required prior to start for direct hire).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years general nursing experience, including at least 1 year in ambulatory or urgent care settings.
  • Clinical competency and high-risk competency certifications within 3 months of hire and maintained annually.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong assessment, prioritization, critical thinking, and communication skills.
  • Ability to operate various medical equipment and perform lifesaving procedures.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and accurate patient data documentation.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and recovery in healthcare settings.
  • Previous experience in fast-paced, multidisciplinary healthcare environments.
Special Considerations:
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods, move quickly, and perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Work requires calmness and professionalism during stressful, urgent, or emergent situations.
  • Adherence to infection control and safety policies is mandatory.
  • May be required to participate in on-call or emergency response roles within the department.
Scheduling:
  • Full-time position with 40 hours per week.
  • Rotating day and weekend shifts.
