Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, VA is seeking an RN for the Trauma Step Down unit. This role supports patient-centered care across all ages, plans and evaluates care, and collaborates with the healthcare team to ensure safe, high-quality outcomes.

The position offers a sign-on bonus and requires Virginia RN licensure, BLS-HCP, and EMR proficiency. You will participate in performance improvement and education activities while delivering compassionate, evidence-based care in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a State Board of Nursing approved program.
• Current Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or eligibility to obtain licensure.
• Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP required; additional certifications (ACLS, PALS, NRP) may be required by area.
• Keyboarding and computer literacy, including use of electronic medical records.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional nursing care to patients across all age groups.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
• Document care in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Collaborate with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to develop and adjust care plans.

How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare:

• Sign on Bonus 20 bed PCU specializes in the care of trauma surgery patients
• Four beds in this unit are dedicated for an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit and two beds are equipped for Chronic Ventilator patients.
• The RN provides professional nursing care to patients across all age groups, supporting patient-centered care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
• This role collaborates with the healthcare team to ensure safe, effective, and high-quality patient outcomes.
• The RN Provides individualized patient care and coordinates care delivery for patients of all ages.
• Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care to achieve optimal outcomes.
• Completes and documents age-specific assessments to support development of care plans.
• Collaborates with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to develop and adjust care plans.
• Administers treatments and medications accurately and documents care in electronic medical records.
• Identifies and addresses patient and family education needs.
• Participates in performance improvement and quality initiatives.
• Advocates for patients and supports their rights and psychosocial needs.
• Applies knowledge of growth and development to provide age-appropriate care.
• Demonstrates clinical expertise in dynamic and changing care environments.
• Implements strategies to improve patient outcomes and resource utilization.
• Serves as a role model and supports development of peers and team members.
• Manages resources, prioritizes tasks, and adapts to changing patient care needs.
• Supports orientation and training of new employees.
• Uses problem-solving skills to address patient care and operational challenges.

What We Require:

• Education: Graduate of a State Board of Nursing approved program required.
• Experience: None.
• Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: Current Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia required or eligibility to obtain licensure required.
• Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP required.
• Additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, or NRP may be required based on assigned work area.
• Other Minimum Qualifications: Keyboarding skills and computer literacy required, including use of electronic medical records.
• For Behavioral Health roles, must demonstrate ability to safely manage disruptive or potentially violent patients.

Compensation Range: $33.52 - $50.28 Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
