Job Description:

Provides direct patient care to patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice. Responsible for selecting, preparing, and placing instruments and supplies in specified order. Scrubs for procedures as a scrub nurse, tech, or assistant. Handles identification, disassembly, decontamination, inspection, assembly, and processing of all reusable supplies and patient care equipment used in the hospital.

Reports to: Director of Surgical Services

  1. Performs plan of care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care treatments.
  2. Documents patient care provided.
  3. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition appropriately to the care team, physician, patient, and family.
  4. Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfers, discharge, referrals, and psychosocial support.
  5. Evaluates learning needs of patients and families, providing education appropriate to their age, culture, and condition.
  6. Practices strict sterile technique to prevent infection and contamination.
  7. May assist with Pre-Admission Testing, Interventional Radiology Nursing Care, and Cardiographics as needed, upon competency completion.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum Education: Associate Degree, Bachelor Degree, or RN Diploma required.
  • Required Skills: Critical thinking, decisive judgment, ability to work with minimal supervision, and stress management. Must obtain BLS upon hire or within 90 days; ACLS and PALS within 12 months; NRP within 12 months. Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) preferred.
  • Minimum Work Experience: 1-2 years OR experience preferred; on-call required.
  • Required Licenses: Registered Nurse license in Tennessee or multi-state license.
