General Summary of Position
Identifies and coordinates care in collaboration with the attending physician and nursing staff for all patients admitted to a MedStar Health facility in the Baltimore Region with the diagnosis of stroke (hemorrhagic/non-hemorrhagic), TIA, and/or other neurological disorders as appropriate. Leads the interdisciplinary stroke steering team. Responsible for achieving and maintaining the Joint Commission/MIEMSS designation as a Center of Excellence for Stroke. Represents MedStar Health to the community at large and MIEMSS as stroke coordinator.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Communicates with leaders by proactively addressing patient issues and stroke performance measures. Educates nursing staff and others regarding stroke patient management.
- Contributes to the achievement of department goals and objectives; adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Ensures compliance with governmental and accreditation regulations. Responsible for the coordination and achievement of Stroke Performance Measurements.
- Leads the hospital Stroke Steering Committee and participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams. Represents the hospital at MIEMSS Stroke Meetings and other community events as appropriate.
- Maintains current clinical competency and up-to-date evidence-based knowledge regarding stroke patient care. Reviews and updates stroke critical paths/protocols and provides teaching in accordance with evidence-based practices.
- Monitors the performance of the stroke program. Works closely with clinical leadership to coordinate initiatives that promote compliance with regulatory requirements, including MIEMSS and The Joint Commission.
- Participates in meetings and committees; represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts as required.
- Responds to Stroke Rapid Response Calls, as needed, to provide guidance on clinical practice.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required.
- Experience: 3-4 years of clinical experience in a related field required; 1-2 years of precepting and teaching experience required.
- Licenses and Certifications: RN - Registered Nurse with State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in Maryland as required by discipline. Certification in area of specialty preferred.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred.
This position has a hiring range of $87,318 - $157,289.
