Job summary

Huntsville Hospital’s NICU unit seeks an RN to deliver high‑quality care to premature and ill newborns. You will assess, plan, delegate, and evaluate care, ensuring outcomes align with established goals.

The role requires Alabama or multi‑state nursing licensure, BLS and NRP certification (to be obtained during orientation), and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to support families and ensure patient safety.

Qualifications

• Graduate of state board School of Nursing with Alabama or multi-state licensure.
• Experience preferred; new graduates accepted.
• BLS and NRP certifications required or will be obtained in orientation period.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional nursing care in the NICU for premature and sick newborns.
• Assess, plan, delegate, and evaluate care based on patient needs and outcomes.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and support staff to ensure safe, effective treatment.
• Communicate care plans and progress to families and team.

Job description

Maintains established standards of care, policies, objective, and goals in administering professional nursing care to all patients. The RN identifies patient needs and priorities for care through assessment. The RN plans and delegates care based on patient needs. The RN evaluates the patient’s response to care and the attainment of or progress toward expected outcomes. The RN is accountable for outcomes of patient care delivered during the assigned shift. Neonatal intensive care unit Registered Nurses provide critical care to premature and sick newborns. In addition to providing around-the-clock care to these patients, NICU RNs offer support to the parents, requiring effective communication skills regarding the plan of care and scope of treatment of the patient. The NICU RN will work as a team member with providers and ancillary staff. Their primary responsibility is to ensure that a newborn's critical care treatment is secure.

Scheduling Requirements

• FT, PT, and PRN RNs will work every 3rd weekend in accordance with their weekend rotation
• PRN employee is required to work 8 shifts in a 6 week period
• All hired positions will work full time hours (3 shifts each week) during the orientation period

Qualifications

Education: Graduate of state board School of Nursing with current Alabama or multi-state licensure

Experience: Experience preferred; new graduates accepted.

Additional Skill/Abilities: BLS and NRP required and will be obtained in the orientation period.
