Job summary

DeKalb Regional Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse responsible for planning, supervising and evaluating nursing care, while correlating the nursing process with the medical plan of care and policies.

The nurse evaluates patients, plans, implements and documents nursing care, and assists physicians during examinations. She/he administers medications within the scope of practice and educates patients and families to promote independence.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.
• Two years of experience in a hospital or medically related environment is desirable.
• Current License with the Alabama Board of Nursing; BLS required and ACLS after 6 months; PALS may be required depending on service population.

Responsibilities

• Plan, supervise and evaluate nursing care of patients; integrate nursing process with medical plan and policies.
• Evaluate assigned patients; plan, implement and document nursing care; assist physicians during examinations and procedures.

Job description

Performs various patient tests and administers medications within the scope of practice of the registered nurse. Promotes patients' independence by establishing patient care goals and teaching patients and families to understand conditions, medications, and self-care skills. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Requires an associate's degree and is certified as a registered nurse. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.

Experience

Desirable characteristics include at least two years of experience in a hospital or medically related environment. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirement relative to the patient's needs and to provide care needed as described to in policy and procedure.

Licenses/Certificates

Current License with the Alabama Board of Nursing. Current BLS required and ACLS after 6 months. PALS may be required based on the patient population for the service provided.
